The Trust Celebrates Ten Thousandth Megatron Explorer
On Sunday 8th September the Sheaf and Porter Rivers Trust celebrated the ten thousandth guest on their Hidden Rivers urban caving tours. The tours began in 2019 and have become one of Sheffield’s more unusual hot tickets attracting visitors from across the UK.
Trust Chair Simon Ogden greeted ten thousandth guest Jane Revill with a case of beers from the Triple Point Brewery, a founding Trust supporter, from whose beer garden on Shoreham Street the tours start and finish.
Led by qualified caving guides from Howl Bushcraft, the tours raise awareness and funds for the Trust’s work to clean up, restore and reopen the ‘hidden’ rivers of Sheffield.
Simon Ogden comments ‘The tours this month are particularly exciting as people are getting a first glimpse of the daylighted Sheaf at Castlegate as work progresses to remove the century-old concrete cover in the old Castle Market site. Tours continue to the end of September and a few tickets are still available on Eventbrite.’
